According to the frame agreement signed between the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Red Cross Committee, dated 2008, taking biological samples from family members of the missing people has been carried out since May 2014, Sanan Babayev, head of the department of the General Military Medical Department of the State Security Service, said at the first international conference on "Forensic archeology and forensic anthropology: Humanitarian applications", APA reports.
According to him, archiving and keeping of the biological samples in special conditions and temperatures was conducted by the General Department of Military Medicine of the State Security Service.
“The examination of biological samples taken during those years was implemented in the labs located in Zagreb, Croatia, and was positively assessed. This project ended in 2022. The collection of biological samples left for various reasons was carried out by the specialists of the General Military Medical Department of the SDF in accordance with the training conducted by the experts of the ICRC,” he added.
