One year has passed since Tovuz battles in which Major General Polad Hashimov and 11 more servicemen martyred, APA reports.

Starting from the afternoon hours on July 12, 2020, Armenian armed forces committed the next military provocation in order to increase tensions by violating the ceasefire in order to seize positions in the direction of the Tovuz region of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and tried to attack our positions by firing heavy machine guns, grenades, sniper rifles, mortars and other artillery.

During the battles that lasted for several days, the attack was prevented and crushing blows were delivered against the enemy.

As a result of the retaliatory measures taken by our army, the enemy, which suffered heavy losses, was forced to retreat. Our army destroyed about 100 enemyəs living forces, a large number of military equipment and important facilities.

The Azerbaijani Army also suffered losses in the battles.

Major General Polad Hashimov, Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev, Major Namig Ahmadov, Major Anar Novruzov, Senior Lieutenant Rashad Mahmudov, warrant officer Ilgar Zeynalli, warrant officer Yashar Babayev, non-commissioned officer, soldier Elchin Mustafazade, Sergeant Vugar Sadigov, soldier Nazim Ismayilov, chief soldier Elshad Mammadov and soldier Khayyam Dashdamirov heroically martyred on the battles with the enemy.

As a result of a projectile shelled by Armenians fell on one of the houses in Aghdam village, the owner of the house, civilian Aziz Aliyev, 76 years old, died.
Along with that, as a result of artillery and mortar attacks by Armenians, houses, administrative buildings, civil facilities and schools were severely damaged in several villages on the border with Armenia in the Tovuz district.

According to the order of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev dated December 9, 2020, Major General Hashimov Polad Israil oglu and Colonel Mirzayev Ilgar Anzor oglu were named "National Hero of Azerbaijan" for their special services in the restoration of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and for their heroism while conducting combat missions.
