The Azerbaijani community of the Nagorno Garabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan has issued a statement regarding the provocation committed by Armenia in the direction of the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan, the Community told APA.
The Statement reads: "On July 12, 2020, the Armenian Armed Forces attacked in the direction of the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan in order to occupy our territories. This attempt by Armenia reminded us of the tragic days when we were subjected to occupation in the early 1990s and expelled from our ancestral lands. If at that time the Garabagh region and surrounding areas were the targets of the occupation, now, inspired by the feeling of impunity, Armenia tries to occupy other territories of Azerbaijan.
This proves once again that Armenia does not want a peaceful solution to the conflict and does not intend to allow us to return to our ancient lands. These attempts by Armenia do not deter us from returning to our homeland and will not prevent the restoration of our violated rights.
The provocation on the state border shows that Armenia wants to divert attention from the Garabagh conflict and the fact of occupation by creating a new source of conflict. However, Armenia will never be able to achieve this.
Socio-economic problems are escalating inside Armenia, the government is unable to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, and therefore wants to divert attention by resorting to such provocations.
The aggressor country in words claims to support the UN Secretary General's Global Ceasefire Initiative but hypocritically commits military provocations. Armenian-occupied territories of Azerbaijan must be liberated and all Azerbaijani IDPs return home to end tensions in region."
