On May 5, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will lay out the key points of the course that the current Washington administration intends to pursue in the future with respect to China, said the State Department, APA reports citing TASS.
Blinken will speak at George Washington University.
The Politico newspaper wrote that the secretary of state will lay out the essence of President Joe Biden's strategy. It aims to "win the 21st century" over "a rising China".
This course is chosen in part based on the policies pursued by former President Donald Trump.
It is noted that the US authorities are not yet ready to "publish the text in full." It is specified that its success depends on "building and strengthening alliances and partnerships in Asia and beyond to counter the perception that China's growing diplomatic, economic and military influence undermines Biden's concept of a "rules-based international order."
On May 3, Mark Milley, head of the U.S. Military Chiefs of Staff Committee, said the United States believes the world is entering an era of greater instability, during which the likelihood of a clash between great powers is increasing rather than decreasing.
Today, the United States faces two great powers, the Russian Federation and China, each aiming to "fundamentally change the rules-based world order," he said.
Commenting on the events in Ukraine, Milley called them "the biggest security threat to Europe, and possibly the whole world, in more than 40 years" of his military career.
