Azerbaijani SBS holds tactical exercises in Caspian Sea

Baku – APA. Units of Azerbaijan’s State Border Service (SBS) have held tactical exercises in the Caspian Sea in connection with the organization of border search in case of any threat to the country’s oil and gas infrastructure and the detection and neutralization of possible terrorist and subversive groups.

The exercises were carried out in three stages over ten tactical episodes in order to improve the readiness of SBS units for the protection of offshore oil and gas fields and the conduct of combat actions against possible threats in the Caspian Sea, SBS told APA on Oct. 10.

Joint search operations by coast guard and aviation unit of the State Border Service over protection of oil and gas bearing region, platforms, pipelines were successfully carried out, warning fire was opened to stop vessel not responding to the request, quick reaction forces were deployed on the vessels by helicopters, conventional terrorist group was neutralized on board, stopped vessel was reviewed with watch dogs and special search tools, components of weapons of mass destruction and drugs were detected during the exercises.

Coast Guard patrol ships and Aviation Unit helicopters’ anti-aircraft artillery and missile complexes successfully carried out live firing in the daytime and at night.

In addition, tasks on detection and destruction of unmanned aircraft and subversive boats of the conditional enemy and terrorist groups camped on the beach at dirk were performed successfully.

The tasks set forth in the exercises were performed completely.

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyyubov watched the tactical exercises.
