Serbia hopes to start receiving natural gas from the Southern Gas Corridor via Bulgaria in 2023, energy minister Aleksandar Antic has said, APA-Economics reports.
Serbia will complete the construction of the interconnection with Bulgaria by 2022 and expects gas from the Southern Gas Corridor to arrive between 2023 and 2025, Antic said in a press release on Sunday.
The Southern Gas Corridor will contribute to the energy diversification of the region of Southeast Europe (SEE), Antic said during a meeting with Turkey's energy minister Fatih Donmez on the sidelines of the official ceremony for the completion of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).
In May 2018, Bulgaria and Serbia signed a declaration on the construction of a pipeline that will link their gas transmission systems, to be operational by May 2022.
The Southern Gas Corridor comprises the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) and the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) and will transport gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field. Connecting with the TANAP at Greece's border with Turkey, TAP will stretch across northern Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea before reaching southern Italy's coast where it will connect to the Italian natural gas network.
