US, Britain, France and Germany issue joint statement to support Georgia

â€œWe reiterate our unwavering support for Georgiaâ€™s sovereignty and territorial integrity and are concerned by the presence of a MiG-29 aircraft in Georgian airspace without Georgian authorization, and by the use of weapons from this aircraft in shooting down an unarmed Georgian aircraftâ€, US State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said in the statement. McCormack said in his statement that Russian overtures to Abkhazia and South Ossetia â€œchallenge Georgian sovereignty and call into question whether Russia can continue to function as a facilitator toward a solution in the regionâ€.
The issue was discussed in UN Security Council on April 23, but no document was adopted regarding that. Three members of the UN Security Council â€“ US, Britain and France, as well as Germany have issued a joint communiquÃ©. David Barkadze, the Georgian Foreign Minister told journalists that they had expressed concern over the Russiaâ€™s decision to support Abkhazian and South Ossetian practical authorities without the Georgian authorization. World leading countries called on Russia to recall or not to implement its decision.
