European Court of Human Rights sentences Armenia to compensate 30 000 Euro

Strasburg –APA. European Court of Human Rights approved lawsuit of Armenian oppositional A1+ TV channel against the government, APA quotes Arminfo. The Court decided that Armenian government violated Article 10 (freedom of expression) of the European Convention on Human Rights refusing to grant A1+ with broadcasting licenses. According to the Court’s decision the Armenian government should pay totally 30 000 euro compensation to the TV channel. Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis said it was the victory of freedom of expression. “The decision of the Court is a victory for freedom of expression. It should also serve as a lesson to all governments inclined to arbitrary interpretations of Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees this essential freedomâ€. Deputy minister of justice of Armenia and the country’s representative in ECHR Gevork Kostanian said the government would pay the compensation.
