Western countries blame Russia for the global food crisis, but it did not occur in 2022, said Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister in an interview with Al Arabia channel, APA reports citing Ria Novosti.

According to him, this crisis arose several years ago for a number of reasons, including miscalculations by Western states and the coronavirus infection.

“They were too preoccupied with turning the food chains their way. And, of course, the present situation exacerbated the problem,” the minister said.

He noted that anti-Russian sanctions were the main reason for the aggravation of the crisis.

“The sanctions announced by the West have destroyed all existing food supply chains. For example, dozens of foreign ships are blocked in the Black and Azov Seas on the territory of Ukraine because they fell under sanctions,” the diplomat said.

The Russian Federation is ready to release these ships, but the Ukrainian government is not cooperating with the Russian side on this issue, he noted
