Russia says UN Assembly can't create 'special tribunal'

The United Nations General Assembly lacks the authority to create a special tribunal to hold Russia accountable for its alleged crimes in Ukraine, said Dmitry Polyansky, Moscow's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, APA reports citing Teletrader.

"Any such initiatives in the General Assembly would be absolutely insignificant from a legal point of view, because the General Assembly does not have such powers," Polyansky told Russia Today television channel. The official claimed that the Western powers are exploiting the concept of a tribunal for "populist and political purposes," according to the media outlet.
