Azerbaijan plays stabilizing role in region – president
Azerbaijan together with Georgia and Turkey successfully implemented the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline projects, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The president made the remarks Thursday at the 6th Global Baku Forum titled “Bridging Gaps to Create Inclusive Societies,” APA reports.
The head of state noted that the Southern Gas Corridor project uniting seven countries is being implemented successfully.
“$40 billion will be invested in this project. The pipelines under construction will contribute to Europe’s energy security. National security in many cases depends on energy security. Azerbaijani oil provides 40 percent of some European countries’ demand for oil,” he said.
President Aliyev informed that the Shah Deniz-2 phase will be commissioned this year.
The head of state said the regional cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey continues successfully.
“In October last year we commissioned the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which can transport cargo from Asia to Europe within two weeks. Our partners from Asia and Europe benefit from this route, and there is an increasing interest in this project,” he added.
Azerbaijan’s mission is to strengthen mutual understanding between Asia and Europe, the Muslim and Christian world, he emphasized.
“As a result of our projects, about 10,000 jobs have created in the region,” said President Aliyev, stressing that Azerbaijan plays a stabilizing role in the region.
