German health officials recommended on Thursday COVID-19 boosters for children and adolescents aged 12 to 17. The Robert Koch Institute said they should receive Pfizer's vaccine at least three months after primary immunization, APA reports citing Teletrader.

It added the data on boosters for this age range is limited, but that "the risk of serious side effects is estimated to be very low" and comparable to the risks after the second dose.

The institute also recommended that the people who received the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine in their primary inoculation should get an mRNA booster. Currently, mRNA vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency are those made by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.
