Azerbaijani community of Azerbaijan’s Nagorno Garabagh region has issued a statement, the Community told APA.

The Statement reads that the municipal elections will be held in our country on December 23, 2019, for the 5th time: "It was stated that all conditions have been created for implementation of the elections in the free, democratic and fair environment and for the fulfillment of voting right by Azerbaijani citizens.

It is more than 20 years that municipal institutions have been operating in every district, settlement, and villages of the Republic, excepting occupied Nagorno Garabagh and adjacent regions. Armenia’s occupational policy has deprived hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people of the right to elect and be elected in municipalities, considered in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan during these years.

Along with violating our fundamental rights and freedom, an invasive policy of Armenia has deprived us of the opportunities to form a local self-government body. Ending the occupation of Armenia, the ancient inhabitants of Nagorno Garabagh, Azerbaijanis wish to return back to their homeland with dignity, to restore and construct the destroyed settlements.

We confidently state that after returning to their settlement, Azerbaijanis who were expelled from the occupied territories will contribute to the activities of municipal bodies, by their constructive works to be implemented there within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. At that time not only we but also the Armenian community will benefit from local self-government bodies to be formed in our settlement,” the statement reads.
