# 01 October 2020 23:13 (UTC +04:00)

The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Yelyzaveta Yasko said that Ukraine is very concerned by the hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

She noted that The Foreign Policy Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament discussed these issues during a closed (classified) part of its sitting on 30th September.

"The official position of Ukraine with regards to the conflict between our respectful partners was announced by our Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, during the briefing on 30th September. “One of the cornerstones of Ukrainian foreign policy is support for the territorial integrity of states. We have consistently supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, just as Azerbaijan supported our territorial integrity within the internationally recognised borders, and this principle remains absolutely unchanged for us.” I too support this position", the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE said.

Yelyzaveta Yasko delivered her condolences to the Azerbaijani people, for the servicemen killed in action as well as civilians who lost their lives because of the conflict.

"As Chair of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, I had phone conversations with my colleagues from Yerevan and Baku. I called on both sides of the conflict to implement a ceasefire, hold negotiations, and to respect human rights and international humanitarian law. I also mentioned that since both countries in the conflict are members of the Council of Europe, respect for human rights should be the guiding principle of their actions and the protection of civilians' lives should be the highest priority in such a situation."
