Sign language to be recognized as official communication language for hearing and speech impaired persons in Azerbaijan

Recognition of sign language as an official communication language will be provided in for hearing and speech impaired people in the spheres, in which the state language of Azerbaijan is used in oral form, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan told APA.

According to the information, it is reflected in the draft law on “Amendment on the law on “Rights of people with disabilities” of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, jointly worked out by the working group of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population and the Ministry of Education.

Purpose is wide provision of unobstructed information access of disabled people equal with others, as well as free expression of their opinions, ideas, and in general integration to society. In order to widen use of sign language, publication of books and obtainment of scientific and methodical fiction works, as well as books, printed with Braille font for educational institutes and libraries will be provided for hearing and speech impaired people.
