“It’s been 17 months that I work in Azerbaijan. It’s my first time visiting the penitentiary”, said Vladanka Andreeva, the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

She stressed that great conditions are made for female prisoners in Azerbaijan: “The conditions created for them to learn a profession are quite commendable. I tasted the sweets made by the female prisoners and got acquainted with their handicrafts. This is designed for women prisoners to effectively spend their time in the penitentiary. However, these professions will help them in their new life after the end of their sentence too”.

V.Andreeva highlighted that they visited the penitentiary with the Azerbaijani Ombudsman within the framework of the fight violence against women conference: "We will visit 16 regions of Azerbaijan as well. Within the framework of the visit, we will try to expand the field of activity of women in the regions".
