“Muslims make up 96% of Azerbaijan’s population. The country has 2,200 mosques, 7 synagogues, 14 churches of both catholic and orthodox faiths. Every year Azerbaijan allocates financial assistance to various religious communities from its state budget. It’s all indicative of sustainable development,” Azerbaijan’s Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli told a plenary meeting held on the sidelines of the 14th Baku International Conference of Ombudspersons, APA reported.
Gurbanli noted that rapid armament is one of the obstacles to sustainable development.
“Annually, $1.6 trillion is spent on armament worldwide, with $1 trillion on NATO’s part. There are up to 160 conflict zones around the globe. Today no one is safe from terror,” he said.
