Armenian MP to be quitted from Armenian delegation to PACE at Russian request

A member of the Armenian delegation to the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Hovhannes Igityan is going to be stripped off his mandate after the upcoming Autumn Session on Monday, APA reports citing Zhoghovurd newspaper.

Members of the ruling parliamentary faction, My Step, was earlier reported to be amid discussions to replace Hovhannes Igityan with another representative.

According to the newspaper, the reason is that he skipped the June 24 debate on re-establishing Russia’s voting right in the Assembly

“The Armenian delegate’s positions were undermined after he skipped the June 24 debate on re-establishing Russia’s voting right in the Assembly. Information was spread later that he had made the decision after consulting with Ukrainian colleagues. Though the controversies with Russia were settled afterwards. The Russian parliamentarians demanded nonetheless that Igityan quit the delegation. After long-lasting debates, the governing political team eventually came up with a decision to find a replacement,” the newspaper stated.
