Murat Bektanov has been appointed the new Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan, the press service of Akorda reports, APA reports.

By order of the head of state, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, Bektanov Murat Karibayevich was relieved of his post as First Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan and appointed Minister of Defense of the republic.

The President of Kazakhstan earlier on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Defense Minister Nurlan Yermekbayev.

Ermekbayev resigned after explosions at an ammunition depot in the Zhambyl region, which resulted in human casualties.

The explosion took place in a military unit of the Zhambyl region in the south of Kazakhstan on August 26. The area of ​​the fire was almost 700 square meters. meters.

More than 500 tons of TNT were stored on the territory of military warehouses, about 1.2 thousand people were evacuated from the fire zone.

As a result of the emergency, 15 people were killed, about 100 more were injured, most of them were rescuers, military personnel, employees of the prosecutor’s office and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
