The XV European Youth Olympic Festival starts today in Baku, APA reports.
Young athletes from 48 countries will compete in the seven-day race.
Only two of 50 member countries of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) will not be represented at the festival. These are the teams of Armenia and Liechtenstein.
About 3900 delegates from other 48 countries will participate in the race. Many of them are already in Baku and wait for the start of the race.
14-18 year old athletes will try their best in ten types of sports - gymnastics, athletics, basketball, cycling, handball, judo, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. Over 2,500 volunteers will operate at 12 sports facilities throughout the festival.
The festival will feature 135 sets of medals. For this purpose, 946 awards have been prepared. Of these, 300 are gold, 300 silver, 346 bronze.
