Hande Harmanci: “Risk of suicide in health care workers is higher than in other professions”

“During a year, thousands of the health care workers, as well as other professionals, have died of coronavirus” said Hande Harmanci, Head of Representative of the World Health Organization in the Azerbaijan Republic at the online event dedicated to the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, APA reports.

According to her, the pandemic has shown that labor protection management is linked to public health systems: “ During COVID-19, 23% of the health care workers in the world have suffered from depression and anxiety, and 30% from insomnia. The risk of suicide in the health care workers is higher than in other professions”.

H. Harmanci noted that according to the statistics, 54% of the health care workers in low and middle income countries of the world are a latent tuberculosis patient
