“Formation of new strains of the coronavirus is one of the main areas caused by COVID-19 today and yesterday”, the chairman of the Health Committee of the Milli Majlis, the head of the Department for International Relations of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, MP Soltan Mammadov told APA.
He noted that despite Azerbaijan is a country conducting the vaccination program successfully, the existence of the “Delta” strain in the neighboring countries, generally in about 100 countries of the world shows that the arrival of this strain to the other countries and Azerbaijan is inevitable: "We are already doing preparation works in this regard. There is an experience both ensuring stationary services and implementing prophylactic measures in Azerbaijan. Implementing vaccination is the most correct prophylactic step. Unlike other several developed countries, Azerbaijan presents vaccine choices to the population. According to the latest assessment of the WHO and the latest information of vaccine producers, Sinovac and Pfizer vaccines are expected to be effective namely against the Delta strain. This will create conditions for the population to be protected against the new strain. However, the new strain is very infectious and spreads rapidly among the population. We have not reached herd immunity level yet, but moving towards that. We hope that most part of the population will be vaccinated in the autumn months. Researches are conducted regarding the duration of effectiveness of the vaccine. Azerbaijan closely follows these researches.”
