Moderna Inc. announced on Thursday it reached an agreement with Switzerland to supply the European country with an additional 7 million booster COVID-19 vaccine doses in 2022, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Under the agreement, which is subject to regulatory approval, Switzerland will also have an option to buy an additional 7 million booster vaccine doses in the second half of 2022 or the first quarter of 2023.

"We appreciate the partnership of the Swiss Federal Government, and their continued support demonstrated by this new supply agreement for doses of Moderna variant booster candidates," Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel stated. "We are encouraged by the new data, which reinforce our confidence that our booster strategy should be protective against these newly detected variants and we will continue to make as many updates to our COVID-19 vaccine as necessary to control the pandemic," he added.

Switzerland authorized the Moderna jab in January and had already ordered 13.5 million doses before today's agreement.
