Employees of Azerbaijani Penitentiary Service arrested over prisoner escape face additional charge

An additional charge has filed against three employees of the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service who was arrested over the escape of two detainees during transportation to Baku.

Commander of the guard Jeyhun Samadov and his assistants Fuad Hajiyev and Tural Poladkhanov face an additional charge of repeated bribe taking (Article 311.3.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan), APA has learned.

Earlier, the abovementioned persons had been put in pretrial detention for a period of four months.

On October 23, Etibar Mammadov and Ali Aghami, arrested on numerous charges, escaped from a train in Bilajari settlement during transportation to Baku, being accompanied by guards.

On the incident, the Investigation Department for Grave Crimes of the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor’s Office has filed a criminal case on Articles 304.2 (escape from places of imprisonment, from place of arrest or from place guard) and 308.2 (abuse of power).

One of the escapees, Ali Aghami, was captured a while ago. A manhunt is underway for another escapee Etibar Mammadov.
