State of emergency declared in Nur-Sultan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed the order introducing the state of emergency in Nur-Sultan effective from 4:00 PM of January 5, APA reports citing AKIPress.

The curfew will be effective in the capital from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

The state of emergency will remain in effect until midnight of January 19.

The security measures will be ramped up, freedom of movement will be restricted, entry to and exit from the capital will be restricted, demonstrations and rallies are prohibited.

State of emergency was introduced in Almaty, Mangistau and Almaty regions earlier.

Protests continue.
