Georgian ruling party wins parliamentary elections

The Central Election Commission of Georgia said it concluded counting of ballots in 409 of 3 475 poll stations throughout the country, APA quotes News Georgia agency. The United National Movement won by 59.78 per cent on the proportional system and its main rival the United Opposition group received 15.42 per cent. Christian-Democratic Movement and Labor Party have also taken seats in the parliament getting over 5 per cent barrier with 8.46 and 7.12 per cent. About 55 per cent of the voters participated in the voting process. According to exit-polls, the United National Movement received 63 per cent of votes, the United Opposition – 14, Christian-Democratic Movement - 9.1 and Labor Party – 5.8 per cent. Leader of the United Opposition Giya Tortladze said if results of the Central Election Commission would coincide with the result of exit-polls, it predicted popular uprising in the country. The United Opposition gathered its supporters before the Sport Palace in Tbilisi last night and announced its victory with 33 per cent of votes, saying that the ruling party received 30.2 per cent.
