Italy added another 200 cases and another 30 deaths in the past day, bringing the total for the coronavirus pandemic to 240,961 infections and 34,818 deaths, according to the latest balance offered by the Department of Health on Thursday, APA reports citing RAİ

Currently, there are just over 15,000 active cases, of which 963 are hospitalized and 82 are admitted to IC, while another 14,015 are isolated at home. In addition, another 366 patients have been discharged, so there are already 191,083 people who have conquered the disease.

In the case of Lombardia, the most affected region, 98 new infections and 21 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 94,108 cases and 16,671 deaths.

For his part, the health minister, Roberto Speranza, has trusted that although scientists point out that there may be a second wave in the fall, it will not eventually happen. In any case, he said in statements to Rai3, citizens can choose to remain “cautious and careful” with the usual hygiene and distant measures.

And as for the authorities, he added, “we need to strengthen the national health service.” According to Speranza, “more money has been allocated in Italy in the past five months than in the past five years” to the National Health Service, although this is “just the beginning,” he said.

In addition, it has influenced the fact that, although Italy and Europe in general seem to have left the worst, “these are the most difficult weeks worldwide”. For this reason, he emphasized that the result has been achieved through the efforts of the citizens and that we must therefore “avoid sacrificing the work done so far”.
