Pakistan-origin Hamza Yousaf has been elected as the new First Minister of Scotland. He became the leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP). 37-year-old Yusuf is the first Muslim leader to become the First Minister of Scotland. He is also the first Muslim leader to become the head of a major political party in Britain, APA reports citing IndiaPost.

Scotland is a country in Western Europe that is part of Britain. Hamza Yusuf declared that his first task was to work for the complete independence of the country. Scotland has long wanted to become a fully independent country. The people of the country are demanding freedom. Addressing the people after being elected, Yusuf said that the new generation will make it possible.

Yusuf’s grandfather migrated to Scotland from Pakistan’s Punjab in the 1960s. Yusuf said emotionally that they never dreamed their grandson would become the ruler of Scotland. Youssef said that the Scottish people are also sending a message that your color or creed will not stop you from reaching the top.

The media released a video of Yusuf’s father’s parents, mother and wife shedding tears while addressing the nation. More attention will be given to overcome the growing economic crisis in the country. The goal is to reduce the cost of living. Sectarianism in the party will end. Yusuf also said that this will be a new beginning for freedom.

After Nicola Sturgeon, the National Chair of the SNP, three people contested the post. Apart from Yusuf, Kate Forbes and Ash Regan were also in the competition. Yusuf became the president of SNP by defeating them. He will be sworn in as First Minister if he receives the approval of the Scottish Parliament. All that remains is the technical procedures.
