German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and U.S President Joe Biden held telephone conversations during which they discussed the situation in Ukraine and Western support for Kyiv, said Steffen Hebestreit, the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, APA reports citing TASS.

“The chancellor and the American president stressed that they do not recognize steps that conflict with the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, and that these steps will not have legitimacy,” said a representative of the German Cabinet.

According to him, the parties agreed on the need to continue supporting Ukraine "on the issue of exercising its right to self-defense." Hebestreit also said that both leaders believe that Russia should stop hostilities on Ukrainian territory, withdraw troops from there and “thus restore its territorial integrity and sovereignty.”

Scholz and Biden "denounced in the strongest possible terms the recent statements by the Russian authorities made to discredit the democratically legitimate Ukrainian leadership," he added, without specifying which statements were in question.
