On March 3, 2023, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) Rafael Grossi, who is visiting our country within the framework of the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on Combating COVID-19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan told APA.
During the meeting, cooperation between Azerbaijan and Agency, as well as nuclear security and guarantees issues, and the current situation in the region were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that joint programs are implemented for many years in several directions within the Agency's jurisdiction and there are broad perspectives in the other several directions expressing satisfaction with the cooperation level in the fields of agriculture, petrochemical industry, medicine and etc.
Noting that Azerbaijan also attaches great importance to ensuring nuclear security said that it is important to follow the safety standards determined by IAEA during the operation of the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant where outdated technologies were used by Armenia
Director-General Grossi, noting that Azerbaijan is an important partner for IAEA, emphasized the joint projects with pleasure and also said that there are perspectives to deepen cooperation with Azerbaijan in nuclear security and other fields where the Agency was specialized.
At the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
