Azerbaijani MFA confirms that Iran declared 4 employees of diplomatic corps of Azerbaijan "persona non grata"

"The news in the press these days is not new," Head of the Press Service Department of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry Aykhan Hajizada said in response to the local media's question regarding the declaration of the employees of Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran and the Consulate General in Tabriz as "persona non grata" (undesirable persons) by Iran, APA reports.

As it is known, at the beginning of April 4 employees of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan were declared "persona non grata" by the government of Azerbaijan due to activities that do not correspond to diplomatic status and contradict the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Iranian side, in its turn, few days after this step of Azerbaijan, without any reason and using the principle of reciprocity as an excuse, declared 2 employees of our country's Embassy in Iran and 2 employees of the Consulate General, who were evacuated in January, "persona non grata".

This step taken against our country harms the bilateral relations, where there are a number of problems," MFA official said.
