9 people arrested in Thailand for spreading fake news

Nine people have been arrested in Thailand for spreading 'fake news' on Facebook after elections in the country, ONA reports citing Daily Mail.

It was noted that the arrests were made for sharing fake news on Facebook claiming two election commissioners had been sacked and that 600,000 fake ballots were mixed into the ballot boxes.

A spokesman for the Computer Crime Suppression Division Police, Siriwat Deephor noted that they were charged under the draconian Computer Crimes Act "for sharing or passing fake news."

Siriwat Deephor added that the accused people confessed and said they didn't know that it was fake news.

The accused face up to five years in jail and a $3,100 fine.
