India’s daily spike in COVID-19 cases inching close to 10,000

The COVID-19 pandemic has assumed alarming proportion in India with the daily spike in cases inching close to 10000 a day, APA reports citing the South Indian Post.

The country recorded 9.985 new infections and 279 fatalities within a period of 24 hours till Wednesday (June 10) 8 am, according to the Union Health Ministry. This has taken the total tally of cases to 276, 583 and deaths to 7,745.

India is the fifth worst-hit nation by the COVID-19 pandemic after the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK, according to data issued by the Johns Hopkins University. The number of active cases in the country stands at 133, 632, while 135, 205 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, said a PTI report.
