"The United Nations has a financial shortage to take response measures regarding COVID-19," said Antonio Guterres UN Secretary-General at a special session of the UN General Assembly on COVID-19, initiated by the President of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
Secretary-General called on the world to strengthen joint efforts to combat COVID-19: "We have mobilized our procurement and logistics operations to deliver medical supplies and medical supplies to 73 countries. Based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization, large-scale, coordinated and comprehensive response measures are aimed at preventing the transmission of the virus, reducing mortality and developing vaccines, diagnostics and treatment that are accessible to all of us. I have repeatedly called for the COVID-19 vaccine to be a global public product that is accessible to anyone, anywhere. Activities in this area have accelerated. But there is a $ 28 billion shortfall, including $ 4.3 billion urgently needed for the next two months. I thank all those who contributed and urge everyone to give strong support."
Mr. Guterres noted that when each country goes in its own direction, the virus spreads in all directions. He called on the world to increase cooperation in the fight against the virus.
