The Mayor of Washington, DC, Muriel Bauzer has declared May 28 Republic Day and signed a declaration on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The declaration noted the establishment of a parliamentary democratic republic in 1918 for the first time in the Muslim world.

It was noted that there are 50 million Azerbaijanis in the world, 10 million Azerbaijanis live in the diaspora, and Washington is among the top 10 cities for this community.

At the same time, it is said that this year marks thirty years since the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence and twenty-nine years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Azerbaijan.

Emphasizing that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of the United States in the South Caucasus and the Caspian Sea region, the two countries support global energy security and regional stability, peace and prosperity.

It was noted that the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the United States and the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce recognize the importance of economic and people-to-people exchanges, especially in the country's capital, to create diversity and opportunity.
