Slovakia elects new president

Today, the polls are open in presidential vote in Slovakia. Presidential race is contested by 13 candidates, ONA reports referring to Russian press media.

The polling stations opened at 7:00 and will close at 22:00.

The preliminary results will be announced shortly after the elections at 22:00, the final official results are expected to be published on March 17, after they are confirmed by the Central Election Committee.

According to Slovak media reports, the frontrunners of the election are European Commission vice-president Maroš Šefčovič, former chair of the Supreme Court Štefan Harabin and environmental lawyer Zuzana Čaputová.

Candidate who will get 50+1 percent of the popular votes will be announced as a winner. The current president of the Slovakia Andrej Kiska did not nominate himself as a candidate for this election.
