"Tomorrow, 18 October, is a historic day. Thirty years ago, Azerbaijan declared its state independence. As you know, on my initiative, the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has made amendments to the list of our national holidays. I think that these amendments are fully consistent with the historical truth and historical justice", said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on October 17 during his meeting with members of the general public of Fuzuli district, APA reports.

"I think that these amendments are fully consistent with the historical truth and historical justice. The main holiday of independence for us is 28 May – the day of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. We are rightly proud that the first democratic republic in the Muslim world was established by the Azerbaijani people. Today, as an independent country, we are the successors of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Azerbaijan is the successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. On 18 October 1991, independence was restored", APA reports.
