Azerbaijan bans use of disposable plastic forks, spoons, knives, plates and cups from today

The import and production of disposable plastic sticks, forks, spoons, knives, plates, and cups by entrepreneurs, as well as the sale or transfer to consumers in trade, catering and other service facilities have been banned in Azerbaijan starting from today, according to the amendment made to Law “On Environmental Protection”, APA reports.

According to the law, it is prohibited for entrepreneurs to import, produce and sell or give to consumers plastic polyethylene bags up to 15 microns thick, as well as disposable plastic sticks, forks, spoons, knives, plates, and cups, as well as in trade, catering and other service facilities

Provisions of the law on polyethylene bags came into force on January 1, 2021. The law regarding disposable plastic forks, spoons, knives, sticks, plates, cups is coming into force from July 1.

The fines for the disposable plastic dishes are envisaged in the amount of 1,000-1,500 manat for individuals, for legal entities - 3,000-4,000 manat.
