Azerbaijani carpets exhibited at Russian Ethnographic Museum

On February 18, an exhibition of Azerbaijani carpets opened at the Russian Ethnographic Museum, the Museum told APA.

The exhibition features more than 40 carpets and carpet products preserved in the collection of the Russian Ethnographic Museum, as well as other decorative-applied works of art of Azerbaijani artists of the XIX-XX centuries.

Among the carpets, most of which date back to the second half of the 19th century - the first decade of the 20th century, is the ancient and mysterious "Surakhani" fleecy carpets woven in Baku at the end of the 18th century.

A lot of Azerbaijani embroideries, embossed patterns, copper forging, and women clothing patterns were demonstrated for the first time at the exhibition

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Russian Federation, the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in St. Petersburg, the Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Relations, and Migration Policy Implementation and Culture, heads of the National Museum of Carpet of Azerbaijan, Russian Ethnographic Museum, as well as other museums and cultural entities.

The exhibition will be open for visitors until May 18.
