Turkey reports over 1,412 new coronavirus cases

Recoveries from the novel coronavirus in Turkey exceeded infections on Monday for the first time in weeks, according to daily Health Ministry figures, APA reports.

The country reported 1,412 more COVID-19 cases, as well as 1,422 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

Overall infections now stand at 315,845, including 277,052 recoveries.

"Today, the number of daily recovered patients is higher than the number of new patients for the first time in a long while," Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.

The death toll from the pandemic in Turkey rose to 8,062, with 65 more fatalities reported since Sunday.

A total of 115,523 more coronavirus tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, pushing the total above 10.15 million.

The number of patients in critical condition now stands at 1,596, the data showed.

Of those infected, 6.5% suffer from pneumonia, showed the ministry figures.

Across the world, COVID-19 has claimed nearly 999,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since last December.

The US, India, Brazil, and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

More than 33.15 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 22.96 million, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
