European Commission: Expansion of Southern Gas Corridor is on agenda

“The issue of increasing by two times the European part of Southern Gas Corridor has already been agreed,” said Deputy Director-General of the Energy Directorate of the European Commission Klaus-Dieter Borchardt while his speech at a press conference, held in the framework of Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, the issue of expanding the Southern Gas Corridor is on the agenda, and it is being reviewed. The expansion of the corridor will pave the way for the future development of fields in the Caspian Sea. This issue will be a topic of discussion in future events as well.

There are large and perspective gas fields and structures in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and the will allow to increase the capacity of the Azerbaijani gas, to be transported to Europe in the future, noted Borchardt.

He also said that the Southern Gas Corridor will cover South-Eastern European and Western Balkan countries in the future.
