Minister: "29 nominations have been included in World Heritage list at Baku Session"

The 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO continues in Baku, APA reports.

Abulfas Garayev, chairman of the Organization Committee, Azerbaijani Minister of Culture, spoke about the recent discussions.

The minister noted that 29 nominations have been included in UNESCO’s list, and one file has been withdrawn at Baku session recently: “Thus UNESCO's World Heritage list has 1121 cultural heritage examples. 869 of them are cultural, 213 are natural and 39 are mixed heritage examples.”

It was noted that more than 160 fields will be discussed to include in the list at the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO to be held next year.

Today, the changes to the ancient city of Lamu in Kenya have been discussed. It was stated that the discussions were held beforehand. The representative of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) presented a report on the submitted file, followed by discussions. Representatives of the Member States recommended Kenya to make amendments to this nomination and to represent at the 44th session.

Then the session discussed the document submitted by the Committee on climate change as well as the amendments to some of the conventional decisions. Taking into account the proposals, some amendments have been confirmed.
