No progress has been made in the latest round of negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union, the bloc's chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier said on Friday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

One of the major sticking points in talks remains the issue of European fishing access to British waters, which the United Kingdom has "not shown any true will" to resolve, according to Barnier.

Barnier also noted that a trade deal with the UK needs to be sealed by the end of October at the latest. "About 5 months, give or take. A little less, in actual fact. We need to use this time as efficiently as possible," he said.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are set to meet later this month.
