French Minister of State for European affairs Clement Beaune stressed on Wednesday that he opposes a potential continuation of trade talks between the European Union and Great Britain beyond December 31, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The talks should finalize in the next few days as these negotiations "were supposed to end at the beginning of November," he told BFM Business in an interview. Reaching a "good" deal that "preserves several essential interests, primarily fishing" is a priority for France, he also noted, adding that the country will not "give in" despite time constraints and the negotiation "tactics."

In addition, Beaune claimed that "the state of preparedness" for implementing border controls on the UK side in case of a no-deal "isn't necessarily exceptional" and that it causes concern within the bloc.
