A United Nations spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the first shipment of fertilizer produced by Russia was heading to Malawi through Mozambique from the Netherlands as part of the deal mediated by the UN, APA reports citing Tele Trader.

The UN-brokered agreement that allowed the export of grain and other agricultural products from Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea was reached in July, and extended last month after a temporary suspension.

The first 20,000 metric tons are expected to reach Africa in the following months, the UN noted, reiterating the deal allows for a total of 260,000 metric tonnes of Russian fertilizer stored across Europe to be exported.
