The meeting of the International Contact Group (ICG) on Afghanistan that is underway in Baku will be effective, said Abdul Salam Zaeef, was the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan during the "Taliban" rule.

Zaeef made the remarks at the ICG meeting on Afghanistan in Baku on June 28, APA reports.

He said that today's meeting will focus on a number of issues, including the next round of Taliban-Afghanistan peace talks.

"At the same time, the elections in Afghanistan and military operations will also be discussed. At the last session, I will address the next steps in the peace process with Taliban", he added.

Zaeef underlined his visit to Baku as his first and expressed hope for the bright future of Afghanistan.

In mid-December Abdul Salam Zaeef returned to Afghanistan after the diplomatic relations between Taliban and Islamabad were ceased.

The temporary government led by Hamid Karzai handed over Abdul Salam Zaeef to the United States.
