On March 30, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov was received by the President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas as a part of his official visit to Palestine, APA reports citing Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
At the meeting, issues of cooperation on bilateral and multilateral platforms, including the current situation in the region, were discussed.
First of all, President Mahmoud Abbas recalled with pleasure his meetings with the great leader Heydar Aliyev and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, and requested that his greetings be delivered to Mr. President. He noted with satisfaction that the broad bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Palestine, mutual support and solidarity within the framework of international organizations is commendable. As the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, it was stated that Azerbaijan's initiatives toward strengthening the Movement, including coordination of member states' activities, are noteworthy.
Recalling the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's diplomatic relations with Palestine last year, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the development of relations between the two states based on friendship, solidarity and common values. Confidence was expressed that the establishment of the Representation Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the State of Palestine will stimulate the further development of relations. Mutual support of our countries on multilateral platforms was noted with satisfaction.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about the current situation in the region after the 44-day Patriotic War, the restoration and construction work carried out by Azerbaijan in the direction of establishing peace and security in the region during the post-conflict period, opening of transport and communications, ensuring the dignified return of IDPs displaced from their homelands as a result of nearly 30 years of occupation. It was pointed out that Armenia's ongoing provocations and non-compliance with its obligations are impeding Azerbaijan's peace and construction efforts in the region.
At the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said the Foreign Minister on Twitter, APA reports.
"Within my official visit to Palestine, pleased to be received by Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine. Discussed prospects of Azerbaijan and Palestine bilateral and multilateral relations, regional and int'l situation, issues of mutual interest. Expressed gratitude for great hospitality and fruitful meeting," he wrote.
