"The liberated areas are among the first in the world in terms of mine and unexploded ordnance contamination," said Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action, during his speech at the international event "Combating the Mine Threat: Challenges and Opportunities," APA reports.
He said that, in accordance with the scale of the problem, demining activities had been identified as one of the special priorities for the state of Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period:
"The issue is always under the special attention of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and continuous work is underway in this direction. In particular, against the background of the post-conflict restoration and construction works, ANAMA's technical capabilities, human resources, and operational methods are developed significantly. In accordance with the instructions of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, important steps are taken to transition to a new stage of demining activity in Azerbaijan, both in essence and in content. It is easy to place mines, and it is much more difficult to clean them," Vugar Suleymanov said.
