"Today, Armenia fired rockets at Ganja," Assistant of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said at a briefing organized for foreign military attaches accredited in the Republic of Azerbaijan and representatives of international organizations (UN, EU, ICRC) in our country, APA reports.

Mr Hajiyev said that Ganja is far from the line of contact: "Armenia fired on Ganja from Vardenis region. Ganja is a densely populated city. Many civilians were killed and injured as a result of the shooting. Armenia used the Tochka-U missile system. These missiles have great destructive power."

Assistant to Azerbaijani President noted that the launch of such a missile into a densely populated area was aimed at killing a large number of people: “Armenia also shells our cities using Smerch and Scud missiles. At the same time, Armenia is firing Smerch missiles at the industrial city of Azerbaijan, Mingachevir. This contradicts the humanitarian ceasefire agreement reached in Moscow. Azerbaijan complied with the humanitarian ceasefire. And Armenia committed a vandalism act against the civilian population. International organizations must put political pressure on Armenia. Armenia imports new weapons using both the black market and civilian aircraft. This is completely contrary to international civil aviation rules.”

H. Hajiyev brought to attention that Azerbaijan demonstrated loyalty to the solution of negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group: “Unfortunately, Armenia violated this agreement and fired at Azerbaijani civilians. Armenia also confesses that they want to achieve some of their goals by attacking civilians. Armenia fires at both residential areas located along the line of contact and residential areas located 100 km away from the line of contact. If Armenia continues these acts, Azerbaijan will take response measures in accordance with international law. We fight against Armenian armed forces, civilians are not our targets. Servicemen should fight on the battlefield, should not fight against civilians.”
