Russian FM: "Statement of Russian, Azerbaijani, and Armenian leaders also based on the basic principles"

"OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have done much work during recent years. In general, they preparing the base principles of the conflict agreed with the sides. Trilateral joint statement of Russian, Azerbaijani, and Armenian leaders dated November 10 also bases on the basic principles. I consider returning 5, then 2 districts to Azerbaijan, deployment of peacekeepers, the establishment of Lachin corridor between Karabakh and Armenia, and opening transport and communication relations. All of these have been reflected in the trilateral statement and its implementation has been started in the form of maximum effectiveness," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the joint press conference on the result of negotiations with his Armenian counterpart Ara Avyazyan, APA's correspondent in Moscow reports.

According to him, this process is proceeding in the order in which the co-chairs agreed with the parties to the conflict: "We believe that it is important now to ensure the full support of the trilateral statement. At a virtual meeting of OSCE foreign ministers last week, the foreign ministers of the three co-chairing countries welcomed the November 10 trilateral statement and expressed support for the implementation of this statement. In my opinion, the co-chairs can use their authority to involve international organizations in this process."

The Russian Foreign Minister talked about the expected activities of organizations in the UN system in Karabakh. "They operated in Azerbaijan and Armenia. But they were not in Karabakh. That is why the UN Secretary-General is now preparing an assessment mission. Unfortunately, this will take some time, there are bureaucratic issues. An evaluation mission is being prepared. They hope to send the mission to the region somewhere in mid-December."

Sergey Lavrov answering the provocative question of the Armenian media representative "How do you assess the cooperation of Russian peacekeepers with the local authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh?" said: “Russian peacekeepers are actively cooperating with the local population. The process of returning the refugees began from the first minute of the arrival of peacekeepers in those areas. This process has already become sustainable.”
